This week we celebrate the Quinquatria!
In Ancient Roman religious tradition, the Quinquatria or Quinquatrus was a festival sacred to Minerva. Minerva was the Roman name of Greek goddess Athena. She was considered to be the virgin goddess of warriors, poetry, medicine, wisdom, commerce, weaving, crafts, and, of course, the inventor of music, According to Ovid it was celebrated for five days, and was for this reason called by this name: that on the first day no blood was shed, but that on the last four there were contests of gladiators.

Consult fortune tellers and oracles!
As this festival was sacred to Minerva. it seems that women were accustomed to consult fortune-tellers and diviners upon this day. Emperor Domitian caused it to be celebrated every year and instituted a collegium to superintend the celebration, which consisted of shows of wild beasts, of the exhibition of plays, and of contests of orators, poets singers and Morris dancers.
